Cookery

Cookery program started its education and training activities in 2011-2012 academic year under the body of Devrek Vocational School. The program has both morning classes and evening classes. Whereas theoretical Lessons of the program are given at Bülent Ecevit University, Devrek Vocational School, practical lessons are given in practice kitchen at the same school. The objective of the program is to raise qualified personnel and cook who can be employed especially in the areas of tourism and food and beverage sector and in other relevant areas. The education and training programs are determined and updated in accordance with the needs of the sector and changing environmental conditions. The students of the program have the chance of taking the practical lessons in a full-fledged kitchen workshop. The education program comprises four terms. The students of the program also have the chance of practice by taking part in various organizations. Moreover, they participate in various competitions through active Gastronomy Club and return with important degrees.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Students are admitted to the program based on the results of YGS exam by  OSYM
  2. The students graduated from cookery departments of vocational high-school have the chance of open admission

PROGRAM PROFILE

The program capacity for student for morning classes is 35 and for evening classes 35. A great majority of the students are graduates of departments of cookery and tourism of vocational high schools. There are also graduates from food and beverages departments of Girls’ Vocational High School. The program includes both theoretical and practice-oriented courses to be delivered at Devrek Vocational School. The program is conducted in the form of formal education.

 

EMPLOYMET PROFILES OF GRADUATES 

Graduates have a great chance of employment in private sector. They can be employed in hotels and Catering firms. Provided that the graduates take at least 70 from Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS), they can be employed relevant areas of the public sector. The lessons of Entrepreneurship and Business Management which are taken by our students at 2nd grade are certified by Small and Medium Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB) and they are given credits when they want to set up their own business.

ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDIES

Graduates of the program can apply to below listed four-year departments of relevant faculties;

  • Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Gastronomy and Culinary Arts
  • Food and Beverages Business
  • Culinary Arts and Management


Graduates of the program which are accepted to above listed department through DGS exam are given orientation courses in their first academic year. Those students who pass the exams of orientation courses are eligible for taking courses directly from the 3rd grade of the department.

 

TESTING AND EVALUATION

For every course, there is one mid-term, one final and one resit exam. In some of the courses, there are additional projects. The exams of theoretical and practice-oriented courses are done in a written format. Those students who pass the practice exam successfully are eligible for taking the final exam at the end of the year. Those who fail the exam cannot take the final exam at the end of the year but have to take the same course again next year.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to graduate from the program, the students need to attend the classes and pass all of the registered courses successfully. Additionally, they need to complete their 30-day practicum and be successful in their practicum exam. They can complete the program provided they have 120 ECTS credits at the end of the 4th semester and be successful in the practicum.
