Department of Applied English and Translation is a quite recent program that was founded in 2015-2016 academic semester at Bülent Ecevit University. This associate- degree program requires studying at English preparatory school for one year and studying for two years at Devrek Vocational School to excel in the field of translation. The program’s central aims are to equip its students with the ability to do translation and interpreting in a wide range of disciplines and with the skills to communicate in the English language both orally and in written form. The program offers several must and elective courses, which are designed in line with the needs and requirements of today. Additionally, the program also includes a practicum course in order to get learners to transfer the theoretical knowledge and skills gained at school to real-life and to gain practical experience of translating. The department with its young and broad visioned instructors will start receiving 80 students for daytime education and 80 students for evening education in 2016-2017 academic semester.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED
The program focuses on all theories, approaches and methods related to translation and aims to develop the students’ translation skills to be used in their future career. The graduates are aimed to be equipped with the skills to do translation in a wide array of disciplines including economics, political science, social sciences, literary topics, medicine, engineering, trade, law, and do any kind of translation and interpreting including consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, film translation (subtitle and dubbing), news translation. The graduates of the program are awarded associate degree diploma.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
OSYM exam (YGS – 3)
For Turkish Students:Admission to the program is conducted based on the results of YGS exam by OSYM.
For International Students:For international students, admission to the program is conducted based on the results of exams such as SAT I, ACT, and GCE. Alternatively, those students who get satisfactory scores in International Student Exam, which are conducted either by our university or their university in Turkey are also accepted into the program.
EDUCATION
Department of Applied English and Translation consists of one-year preparation school study, two-year associate degree education (30 ECTS credit courses including must and elective courses to be completed in four semesters) and 30-day practicum. In total, the students need to take 120 ECTS credits in order to graduate. The program also offers evening education with 80 student capacity. Provided that students already have the satisfactory language score or are successful at the English Proficiency Exam conducted by the university, they can pass the preparation school study and proceed directly with their studies in the department.
Physical Infrastructure and Facilities
Department building houses various classrooms, which have audio-visual equipment. In many courses, the students are encouraged to use these equipments in order to develop their language skills. In addition, for students, career days, conferences and seminars are organized.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to graduate from the program, the students need to attend the classes and pass all of the registered courses succesfully. Additionally, they need to complete their 30-day practicum and be successful at their practicum exam. At the end of the 4th semester, they need to be successful at 120 ECTS credit courses and at practicum.
