Department of Tourism and Hotel Management was founded in 2004-2005 academic semester at Bülent Ecevit University. The program is conducted at Devrek Vocational School as part of Bülent Ecevit University.The primary aim of the program is to train qualified intermediate staff who will work in tourism sector. In accordance with this objective and depending on the needs of the sector and changing environmental conditions, curriculum of the program is updated on a regular basis. Another pivotal aim of the program is to prepare the students for the working conditions of today.

PROGRAM PROFILE
Program capacity for students is 40. A great majority of the students are graduates of vocational high schools and especially of the departments related to tourism. The program includes both theoretical and practice-oriented courses to be delivered at Devrek Vocational School. The program is conducted in the form of formal education.
EMPLOYMENT PROFILES OF GRADUATES
Graduates of the program can find employment in public institutions and private sector. They can work at hotels, travel agencies, airlines firms, catering and organization firms. Most often, when they graduate, they start working in the firms where they had their practicum. In order to work at public institutions, they need to get at least 70 out of 100 in KPSS exam. By taking the course called “Small Business and Entrepreneurship” and being certified by KOSGEB, they can also get credit support for hanging out their shingle.
ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDIES
By taking the DGS exam, graduates of the department can apply for many undergraduate programs including Tourism and Hotel Management, Business Administration, Business Informatics, Business Administration- Economics, Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management. In their first year of study, they need to study the courses that differ from those in their associate degree program and upon the completion of that one year, they can proceed as a third year student.
EXAMINATION REGULATIONS, ASSESSMENT AND GRADING
Assessment includes at least one mid-term, one final exam and one resit exam for every course. Additionally, in some of the courses, there can be projects assigned for the students. The exams of theoretical and practice-oriented courses are done in a written format. Those students who pass the practice exam successfully are eligible for taking the final exam at the end of the year. Those who fail the exam cannot take the final exam at the end of the year but have to take the same course again next year. Mid-term exam has 40% proportion in the final grade of students whereas final exam has 60% and the minimum score for passing the course is 50.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to graduate from the program, the students need to attend the classes and pass all of the registered courses successfully. Additionally, they need to complete their 30-day practicum and be successful at their practicum exam. At the end of the 4th semester, they need to be successful at 120 ECTS credit courses and at practicum.
